Short story, page one

It seems like it has been forever since I posted anything because I’ve been working on the framework for a series I want to work on. This is the first page of a line of short stories that I plan to work on in between full pages of the book. It’s pretty low-tech so I can work on it while on the go instead of being tethered to a full-sized computer all the time. I’m pretty happy with the first page and look forward to starting work on the second. When I get around to it, I’ll add words and post it to the comic book site.

Archangel

This was a fun experiment with the redesign for the Marvel character Archangel… I played up his role as Death and then took advantage of the opportunity to color it in the obnoxious hues that were popular in the early 90s when the character debuted in X-Factor. I made sure to scan the inks on this one so I wasn’t stuck with this god-awful color palette. So, it’s Death, early 90s West Hollywood style.

Sci-fi pool party

I put this together for fun last week. I spent about 12-15 hours on it but if I was to really do it correctly, that should have been in the 20-25 hour range. Oh well, it pushed me to see how fast I could work.

Character designs 3

Here’s another character design, this time of one of the main protagonists from the book. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out and while the coloring isn’t terrible, I still need a ton of practice with those Prismacolors (and I keep finding that I need MORE markers). I started inking these with a Prismacolor brush marker, which I may actually start using for full pages when I get back to work on those. They’re pretty fantastic little markers, especially on portions of the piece where long, fluid marks are needed and crow quills start to run out of ink before the line is complete, forcing me to go back and try to integrate two separate marks into one seamless line.

Character designs 2

This started out as kind of a parody of a drawing I finished over ten years ago but as it began to come together, I liked where it was going. It’s a bit of a late 90s cliche (being a bad girl and all, which was the rage around that time) but it’s all in good fun. I’m pretty happy with the results. I’m cranking these drawings out this weekend… already have the pencils finished for another character.

Character designs 1

I’m working on coming up with a few character designs and this is the first. It’s a good exercise to let me play with color and my new markers some more, though I’m quickly finding out that I really need to go buy about a dozen more.

Rawr. Catwoman.

Originally, I planned on drawing a background for this and I may still do so if I’m motivated enough to go buy the grey markers I need to complete it. Other than that, just another drawing… this time I tried inking it with a Prismacolor brush marker. Overall, not a bad effect though I did have to clean a bit of the lines up with a traditional marker.

Wonder Woman with color

I added some color to the Wonder Woman piece I finished yesterday. I’m digging these Prismacolor Premiere markers.

Wonder Woman Day!

Well, actually Wonder Woman Day was yesterday but I didn’t have time to finish this last night. It turned out pretty well considering I inked it with a marker set, which is a pretty shoddy way to do this kind of work. On the upside, that just means I need to go to the art store again and buy higher quality markers!

Aquaman

Here’s a redesign of Aquaman I did yesterday to pass the time… I really don’t have much more to say about it than that. I did get to use my new Prismacolor markers on it. I guess that’s something.
